Figma to Mailchimp, 3 ways to move an email design (2026)
15 October 2026 · 7 min read
You have a finished email in Figma and a Mailchimp account to send it from. Mailchimp can’t open a Figma file, so the design has to arrive as blocks, as HTML or as images. There are three ways to get it there, and each one decides how the email is edited in Mailchimp afterwards.
The short answer
| Method | What you get in Mailchimp | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rebuild it in Mailchimp | Native Mailchimp blocks, editable in either builder | Free | Text-heavy emails, or a few a month |
| An HTML export plugin | A custom-coded template, edited as code in the legacy builder | Plugin subscription | Designs built with the plugin’s components |
| Carvr | A template of image sections, linked, with alt text, in the legacy builder | Free for 5 a month; paid from $48 | Finished, image-led designs, agencies sending many |
Both the HTML route and Carvr produce a coded template, which Mailchimp edits in its legacy builder. The difference is what’s inside it. An HTML plugin rebuilds the design as code from its own components. Carvr keeps the design exactly as designed, as linked image sections.
1. Rebuild the design in Mailchimp’s editor
Export the images from Figma, upload them to Mailchimp’s Content Studio, and recreate the layout with Mailchimp’s blocks. Mailchimp takes images up to 1MB each in the Content Studio (Mailchimp). Its templates are 600px wide in the legacy builder and 660px in the new builder, and it recommends images 600 to 1200px wide in the legacy builder and 660 to 1320px in the new one (Mailchimp).
Everything ends up native and editable, which suits text-heavy emails. It is also the slowest route, and a rebuilt email drifts from the design, because Mailchimp’s blocks bring their own fonts, padding and spacing.
2. Export HTML with a Figma plugin
HTML plugins turn a Figma design into a coded email and push it to Mailchimp with your API key. As of October 2026,
- Emailify generates the HTML, uploads the images and creates the template in Mailchimp (Emailify docs), but does not support Figma designs created outside the plugin (Emailify docs).
- Email Love pushes designs into Mailchimp’s saved templates, and needs an email designed with the plugin, including an Email Love footer with an unsubscribe link (Email Love help).
- Marka exports an HTML file or a ZIP with images, or sends the template to Mailchimp (Marka help), and starts a project as a 600px frame with auto layout (Marka help).
Any of them can also hand you the HTML to import yourself. In Mailchimp, go to Campaigns, then Email templates, then Code your own, where you can paste code, import an HTML file, or import a ZIP under 1MB with one HTML file. Mailchimp’s help says the template must include the unsubscribe tag, *|UNSUB|*, and that custom HTML templates are for accounts on a Standard plan or higher (Mailchimp). Custom-coded templates are edited in the legacy builder (Mailchimp).
You get real HTML text and responsive layouts. In exchange the design is built the plugin’s way, and copy changes after export happen in code. For how these tools compare in depth, see Carvr vs Emailify vs Email Love.
3. Send it as image sections with Carvr
Carvr takes the finished design as it is. In Figma, select the frame in the Carvr plugin and click Send. From Photoshop, Canva or anywhere else, upload one PNG or JPG in the web app. For a brand connected to Mailchimp with its API key, Carvr then
- cuts the design into sections where a person would, and lets you move any cut or split a row into up to four columns;
- compresses each section and uploads it to your Mailchimp account;
- puts a link on every section, from your Figma prototype links or the brand’s default, and writes alt text with AI;
- creates the template in Mailchimp, 600px wide, with the design as an editable content area and a footer area below it for your own footer.
GIFs in your Figma frame can stay animated, the brand’s colours and HTML footer can be added to every template, and when the design changes, an update goes into the same Mailchimp template rather than a new one. Like any coded template, it opens in Mailchimp’s legacy builder, so check that your Mailchimp plan includes custom templates.
The trade-off is text. Words inside an image section are part of the image, so a copy change goes back through Figma, and Carvr’s live text blocks work for Klaviyo and Omnisend but not Mailchimp. For an email that is mostly text, an HTML plugin or a native Mailchimp build suits it better.
The step-by-step setup is in connecting your ESP and the Figma plugin guide. Sending to Klaviyo instead? See Figma to Klaviyo.
Frequently asked questions
Can you export a Figma design to Mailchimp?
Not directly from Figma itself. You either rebuild the design with Mailchimp’s blocks using images exported from Figma, turn it into HTML with a plugin such as Emailify, Email Love or Marka and import it, or send it as image sections with Carvr, which builds the Mailchimp template for you.
Is there a Figma to Mailchimp plugin?
Yes, several. As of October 2026 Emailify, Email Love and Marka each push a coded HTML template to Mailchimp with your API key, from designs built with their components or auto layout. The Carvr plugin sends a finished frame as a template of image sections, with no rebuild.
Can I edit an imported HTML template in Mailchimp’s new builder?
Mailchimp’s own comparison of its builders says to use the legacy builder to custom-code an email template, so imported HTML, from any tool, is edited there. The new builder has a Code block for adding HTML inside an email built with its blocks.
What size should a Figma email be for Mailchimp?
Mailchimp says legacy templates are 600px wide and new-builder templates 660px, and recommends images of 600 to 1200px in the legacy builder and 660 to 1320px in the new one. A 600px design exported at 2x, 1200px, fits the legacy builder, which is where coded templates open.
Can one Carvr account send to Mailchimp and Klaviyo?
Yes. Each brand in Carvr connects to one platform, and brands are unlimited on every plan, so an agency can run its Mailchimp clients and its Klaviyo or Omnisend clients side by side from one account.
