Carvr vs Klaviyo’s Figma plugin (2026)
15 October 2026 · 6 min read
In 2026 Klaviyo shipped its own Figma plugin, announced at Figma Config and free on the Figma Community. If you design emails in Figma and send from Klaviyo, the fair question is whether you still need anything else. The two tools do different jobs, so the answer depends on what you want to find in Klaviyo when you’re done.
A note on fairness. We make Carvr. Everything about Klaviyo’s plugin here comes from Klaviyo’s own help article, blog and Marketplace listing, read on 15 October 2026, and every fact links to the page it came from.
The short answer
- Klaviyo’s plugin moves images. It sends what you select in Figma to your Klaviyo image library as PNG or JPG, for free.
- Carvr builds the email. It finds where to cut a finished design, uploads every section, adds links and alt text, and creates a drag-and-drop template in Klaviyo, Omnisend or Mailchimp.
- If you already cut your designs into frames and like assembling templates in Klaviyo, the free plugin may be all you need. If you send a lot of image-led email designs, Carvr takes the slicing, the assembly, the links and the alt text off your plate.

What Klaviyo’s Figma plugin does
You select one or more frames, groups or components in Figma, choose a size (1x, 2x or a fixed width) and a format (PNG or JPG), and export them to your Klaviyo image library. With two or more layers selected it switches to batch export, you can add a prefix or suffix to the file names, and if you connect more than one Klaviyo account you choose which one receives the images. The Klaviyo user needs permission to manage images (Klaviyo Help Center). Klaviyo’s blog adds that the images keep your selection order, so they land next to each other in the library (Klaviyo blog).
That is where its job ends. The help article covers the export, and nothing after it, so deciding where the email is cut, arranging the images in a template, linking each one and writing alt text all stay with you in Klaviyo’s editor. One word to read carefully is “slice”. The Marketplace listing says you can send “any frame, group, component, or slice”, which means Figma’s own slice layer, one you draw by hand, not automatic sectioning.
You can install it from the Figma Community.
What Carvr does
Carvr starts from the finished email. In Figma you select the frame, pick the brand and click Send in the Carvr plugin, and a whole campaign of frames can go at once. From anywhere else, you upload one full-length PNG or JPG in the web app. Then Carvr
- finds the cuts the way a person would, splits rows into up to four columns, and lets you move, add or remove any line;
- compresses each image, as JPEG for photos and PNG for flat art;
- puts your Figma prototype links on the right sections, and the brand’s default link on the rest;
- writes alt text for every section with AI;
- builds a native drag-and-drop template in Klaviyo, so your team edits it in the editor it already uses.
Around that sit the things a busy team needs. Switch on Keep GIFs animated and the GIFs in your frame arrive still moving. Turn on live text blocks and text-only sections land as editable Klaviyo text. Each brand can carry its own template styles and, if you switch it on, an HTML footer that Carvr adds to every template. When a design changes, Update in Carvr and then Update in Klaviyo refresh the same template in place, re-uploading only the sections that changed. Every plan has unlimited brands and teammates with a shared history, and there’s an API for automation.
The trade-off is the same as every image-based route. Words inside an image section are part of the image, so a copy change goes back through the design, and dynamic blocks such as product feeds are still added in Klaviyo.
When Klaviyo’s plugin is the better choice
- You want something free and official, with nothing to sign up for.
- You need single assets rather than whole emails, such as a logo or a product shot for a block you’re building natively.
- Your emails are mostly native Klaviyo blocks with a few images, so there’s little to slice.
When Carvr is the better choice
- Your emails are designed, image-led layouts, where slicing, assembling, linking and alt text are the slow part.
- You’re an agency or an in-house team sending many email designs a week across several brands, with more than one person doing it.
- Some designs arrive from Photoshop, Canva or a client as a flat image.
- Some of your brands send from Omnisend or Mailchimp.

Frequently asked questions
Is Klaviyo’s Figma plugin free?
Yes. As of October 2026 Klaviyo’s blog says it is free on the Figma Community and available to any Klaviyo and Figma user. Carvr is free for 5 email designs a month, and paid plans start at $48 a month for 30.
Does Klaviyo’s Figma plugin build email templates?
Klaviyo’s help article describes it as exporting the frames, groups or components you select into your Klaviyo image library as PNG or JPG images. You then place those images in a template in Klaviyo’s editor, and add the links and alt text there. Carvr builds the template for you.
Does Klaviyo’s Figma plugin slice emails automatically?
Not as Klaviyo describes it. You select what to export, and each selected frame, group, component or Figma slice becomes one image. A “slice” there is Figma’s own slice layer, which you draw yourself. Carvr looks at the finished design and finds the cuts itself.
Can I use Carvr and Klaviyo’s Figma plugin together?
Yes. They don’t touch each other. Klaviyo’s plugin suits single assets, such as a logo or a product shot for an email you build natively, and Carvr suits full designed emails that should arrive as a finished template.
Does Carvr work if my design isn’t in Figma?
Yes. Export the whole email as one PNG or JPG from Photoshop, Canva, Illustrator or anything else, upload it in the Carvr web app, and it slices it the same way. Klaviyo’s plugin works from Figma only.
